Special Prosecutor, Martin A.B.K. Amidu is finally sworn in on a day where two(2) are jailed for their roles in an alleged corruption deal that robbed the state of millions of cedis. Former Member of Parliament, Abuga Pele and businessman, Philip Assibit, were jailed 6 years and 12 years respectively for misappropriating GHS3.3million at GYEEDA.

Lawyers for Philip Assibit pleaded with the trial judge not to give their client a 'very long jail-term' because he is a chief who has "unnumbered children."

They had also argued the Nsawam prison was full and would be unable to accommodate more inmates.

Meanwhile Ghana drops further in the latest Corruption Perception Index as many more express dissatisfaction with the NPP government's poor handling of corruption cases since 2017. The NPP is strongly fighting off the claim even as it blames the previous government for actions in 2017. The NDC will however have none of that as it places the blame squarely at the doorstep of the governing NPP.

Also on Newsfile today, more than 80% of law students fail the bar exams, a situation that has generated major controversy and has got many asking whether the activities of the General Legal Council should be re-looked at.

Panelists will delve deeper into these topics on JoyFM/Multi TV's news analysis talkshow, NewsFile.
