There is a looming industrial strike at the Sunyani Technical University in the Brong Ahafo Region by Lecturers to resist the amendment of the act that established the technical universities in the country.

The looming strike action at the Sunyani Technical University is to force the Minister of Education, Matthew Opoku Prempeh to withdraw the amendment bill he has sent to Parliament to amend the Technical Universities Act, 2016(Act 922) which seeks to grant power to the National Council for Technical Education to perform functions which generally fall within the purview of the Governing Councils, the Academic Boards and the Principal Officers of Universities in Ghana.

George Agyenim-Boateng, Chairman of the Sunyani Technical University Branch of the Technical Universities Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) in an interview with Ghone News noted that if the current Bill is passed by Parliament in its current form, the NCTE as an advisory body it would affect the effective running of the Technical Universities in the country.

Mr. Agyenim- Boateng is worried workers at the Technical Universities in the country are referred to as interim employees.

He is therefore calling on President Akufo-Addo to call the Education Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh to order.
