School officials said lessons end anytime it rains, due to the bad nature of their classrooms
The authorities of Adjeibikurom D/A Primary School in the Ahafo Ano South district in the Ashanti region has appealed to the Ghana Education Service to assist them in the construction of their classroom blocks allow teaching and learning go on uninterrupted.
According to them, because of the incomplete nature of the classrooms blocks, the school closes anytime it rains or heavy wind blows.
Otec News’ reporter Ebenezer Owusu Ansah who visited the school on Tuesday February 27, 2018 said the pupils were studying in classrooms with no side covers that make it possible for rains to enter into them and destroy anything in them.
“Apart from the uncompleted nature of the wooden structures, tables and chairs are not enough for the school children, with most of them sitting and writing on the bare floor,” he reported.
“According to some teachers I spoke to, who wanted to be unanimous, they have alerted the Education Service for about a year now but the situation remains the same. The Member of Parliament (MP) even promised to assist us, he too has not been heard from again,” he said.
“Now that we are entering into rainy season, classes will never be effective because all the classrooms will be covered with water, the tables and chairs will also be soaked, including our exercise and test books,” one teacher bemoans.
Some of the school children who spoke to the reporter appealed to the government to assist them to make learning at school a happy one.
“Anytime it rains we have to abandon classes and go home, and if it rains in the morning it means no school for us because the classrooms will be flooded with the rain water. So we are appealing to the Education Service and those at the high offices to come and help us to cover the classrooms and also provide us more tables and chairs,” one pupil appealed.
