The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) headed by Ben Nunoo Mensah are eyeing the country’s first ever Gold Medal at the Tokyo 2020.

The GOC have started putting their house in order ahead of the Summer Games in the Asian country.

Last Friday at the Accra Conference Center, the GOC launched its target for Tokyo 2020.

The GOC President in addressing the media intimated that one of the challenges of the nation is insufficient funds to cater for the athletes and officials, however, if there are early planning and preparations, some of these problems could be solved.

He thanked companies like Cocoa From Ghana, Pay Switch and others who have supported the GOC’s participation in the Olympic Games.

He hinted that Chefs Du Missions were appointed on time to programme and plan towards upcoming international Games, and the recent 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang were Ghana was represented by USA based Akwesi Frimpong gave the country much attraction and attention.

The Chef du Missions for Ghana’s team who doubles as First vice president of the GOC Paul Atchoe said, Team Ghana must prepare on time for these world competitions, and the nation must be focused and determined to achieve that is why he wants to bring on board corporate Ghana to support the sportsmen and women, since experiences over the years has shown that funding has always been a major issue.

According to Paul Atchoe, Ghana has many talented sports people and the nation must try to present as many people who have the potential and are medal prospects.

He also noted that the Media has a very big role to play in advertising and motivating the sports personalities, so they are being invited to send the message that Team Ghana is getting ready for 2020, and they are going to use the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia as a launch pad or springboard for greater and bigger things.

“We have to prepare well before we can perform at the highest level and climb the podium for a medal,” he said.
