Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Chairman, Nana Sam Brew-Butler, has suggested that football clubs in the country could come together to organize their own competition in the face of the stalemate that has rocked the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League.
Great Olympics are in court with the GFA in a case in which the club wants the FA to apply its rules regarding player ineligibility. The GFA and Great Olympics have failed to settle the matter out of court.
They are due back in court on March 15, 2018 and Nana Sam Brew-Butler is convinced that, while waiting for the GFA-Olympics tussle to end, clubs could have their own competition.
“Nothing stops like-minded clubs from coming together to introduce and play their won competition, while the GFA dealt with the issue that is holding the league up” Nana Butler, who is the President and Board Chairman of Ebusua Dwarfs told Graphic Sports on Friday.
The astute football administrator, however, warned against bending rules to serve parochial interests. He stated that issues confronting the Ghana football at the moment should be dealt with decisively.
“I insist that the right things must be done and the GFA should respect its rules and regulations irrespective of the club at the receiving end. When the FA attempts to favour any club then that would mean they are bending the rules” he said.
“People involved in football must have principles and those who would not want to go by those principles must be kicked out…Owners of clubs must come out and speak for a solution devoid of compromises. The issues must be dealt with without cutting corners or else it will come back to haunt us he advised.
