The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has rubbished media reports about an alleged corruption saga involving two students of the Africa Hall and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

A press release signed by the university’s relations officer explained that the hall executives sought sponsorship from corporate entities for the 50th hall week celebrations. A number of companies, including GNPC, responded to their cause and assisted in cash and kind.

According to the press release, GNPC responded to a request for ceiling fans and other structural projects meant to improve living conditions in the hall, not the beauty pageant as purported.

The accused persons, Winifred Abotsi and Eunice Akorkwor Adjetey, Hall President and Secretary respectively, who allegedly solicited an amount of GHC 150,000 from GNPC to fund a beauty pageant show during the Africa Hall’s week celebration have been asked to step aside while investigations continue.
