It has emerged from the Nduom Stadium that center referee Yakubu Nuhu Liman, has been assaulted by Elmina Sharks fans.
The alleged assault, the second on the referee this season, happened midway the midweek clash involving host, Sharks and Medeama.
The culprit suffered deep cuts to his head and was later rushed to the hospital for treatment, resulting in the abrupt end of the game (0-0).
A tweet from Elmina Sharks quarters suggested that referee Liman suffered the injury after he slipped and fell when he was resuming the second half. However, Medeama’s Public Relations Officer, Patrick Akoto, said “It was a brazen attack by some sections of the Sharks fans on the referee.”
At press time, indications were that the injured referee was in a stable condition.
If the home side is found guilty, it would suffer huge penalties including a forfeiture of the said game, home matches ban, and a heavy fine for demonstrating barbarism.
