Former Black Stars striker Augustine Arhinful has stated that the departure of football talents from the shores of Ghana is mainly as a result of poor remuneration by the clubs.

Speaking in an interview with Mikki Osei Berko on the ‘After Hours’ on TV3 last Friday, the former Ghana golden boot winner argued that “GH¢300 or GH¢400” paid as salaries is not enough to keep the young talents in the country.

“When we talk about talents we have. I personally think the remuneration coming to the players is not enough. You can’t be playing for a [Ghana] Premier League team and make as little as GH¢300, GH¢400 a month. So players will continually leave the shores of Ghana,” he stated.

Arhinful also blamed the lack of headline sponsorship for Ghana’s league as part of the reasons why clubs struggle in Ghana.

“How can you be playing in a league with no main sponsor? Because the sponsor’s money comes to augment whatever you have. We cannot play without sponsors.”
