The Ghana Medical and Dental Council has disclosed that Dr Dominic Obeng-Andoh, Director of the Advanced BodySculpt Centre, Obengfo Hospital, did not have a valid licence to practice as of the time Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship Innovation Programme (NEIP), Stacy Offei Darko, died at his facility.

“Dr Obeng-Andoh has no valid licence to hold himself up and practice as a doctor”, Registrar and CEO of the Medical and Dental Council, Dr Eli Atikpui stated on Tuesday, 29 May, 2018.

Ms Offei Darko died last week Monday at the health post.

“As we speak now, Dr Dominic Obeng-Andoh does not have the registration to continue to practice as a doctor… In 2012, 2013, Dr Obeng-Andoh went through the disciplinary process of the Medical and Dental Council, he was found guilty and he was suspended for three years. He filed an appeal and per the provisions in our law, once a practitioner files an appeal at the Court of Appeal, it serves as a stay of execution. Dr Obengfo could practice until the appeal is determined, however, the practitioner is supposed to renew his registration every year to enable him continue to practice. Unfortunately, since then, Dr Obengfo has not renewed his registration to hold himself as a doctor,” he told Joy FM.

He said they have made that clear and informed the public to desist from seeking medical care from Dr Obeng-Andoh on several occasions and that anyone who does so “does that at his/her own risk”.

Meanwhile, Dr Obeng-Andoh has been arrested by the police in connection with the death of Ms Offei Darko.

Nana Akosua Animah, mother of the 37-year-old deputy CEO, told the media in various interviews that her daughter died at the facility under mysterious circumstances and was put in the morgue without the knowledge or consent of any family member.

The mother said she only got informed of her daughter’s death three days after her passing.

She said she felt suspicious about the turn of events and reported Dr Obeng-Andoh to the police.

Dr Obeng-Andoh is currently being held by the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service at the Nima Police Station. Alleged accomplices of Dr Obeng-Andoh have also been arrested in connection with Ms Offei-Darko’s mysterious death.

In the meantime, the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital is performing a postmortem on Ms Offei Darko’s body to ascertain the cause of her death, adding that “even a chicken won’t be treated like she was”.

Dr Obeng-Andoh has had several brushes with the law in the past. In 2017, his facility was shut down by the Medical and Dental Council for operating without a licence.

In 2016, Dr Obeng-Andoh was arrested for operating illegally following numerous complaints from his patients.
