President Kufuor launches book on Govt's performance

Kumasi, Sept 19, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Sunday launched a book on the Government's performance since 2001 in Kumasi. The 131-page book titled: "Positive Change So Far So Very Good -We Keep Our Manifesto Promises", was launched at a mammoth rally organised by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Jackson's Park to round off their three-day national delegates conference.

President Kufuor said one of the greatest services the NPP Government had rendered to Ghana was freedom, adding, "This cannot be quantified immediately but with time Ghanaians would see the fruits for themselves".

He said the Government had restored respectability to Ghana and today Ghana's leadership under his forward-looking foreign policy had made her the peacemaker of Africa and the beacon of hope in good governance.

President Kufuor pledged the Government's commitment to continue to work hard to make Ghana a better place for all Ghanaians and more committed to Positive Change in order to build a better country than the one it met.

"This is a government which through the numerous development projects it has undertaken and the unprecedented freedom it has engendered, has delivered on its manifesto promise of "Development In Freedom".

President Kufuor, who arrived at the rally grounds in an open Pajero, was received by an enthusiastic crowd, responded to the wide cheers of the teeming supporters and sympathisers of the party who had lined up the streets from Asafo Market to the Jackson's Park.

The security personnel had a hectic time to control the crowd who were shouting the Party slogan and making the "Asieho, Ashieho" sign. Present at the rally were Ministers of State, Parliamentarians, aspiring parliamentarians of the party and National Executive Committee members.

President Kufuor appreciates Ghanaians' confidence in the government

Kumasi, Sept 19, GNA-President John Agyekum Kufuor on Sunday expressed confidence about the NPP's massive victory in the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

"We are going to win the elections genuinely and by a big margin". President Kufuor who was addressing a mammoth rally of the Party to round off their three-day National Delegates conference in Kumasi, said it was ironical that the NDC, having failed the nation was asking the people to vote it back to power.

He said during his tour of the Central, Eastern, Western and Brong-ahafo regions, the people were appreciative of the good works of his administration.

President Kufuor praised Ghanaians for the support and goodwill that has helped the Government to transform the economy and restore respect, hope and confidence to the nation.

He re-affirmed the determination of the government to create the necessary conditions for local Ghanaian entrepreneurs to flourish and create wealth and job opportunities to the people especially the youth. President Kufuor asked the people to continue to have faith in his administration and rally solidly behind it.

Mr Joseph Henry Mensah, the Senior Minister, described the achievements made by the Kufuor administration as both significant and remarkable.

He said those refusing to accept this were simply being mischievous.

"If you want the evidence, just open your eyes and look around you", he declared.

Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Minister of Defence, assured Ghanaians that the security of the nation was under firm control.

He said there was therefore no cause for the people to fear. The Minister said the spate of armed robberies had now gone down and that the general insecurity and fear the people lived under in the past had been replaced by genuine freedom.

Mr Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, Chairman of the NPP National Campaign Committee, said the 2004 elections were about trust. He said Ghanaians would vote for the flagbearer whom they could trust to look after the country for them.

"President Kufuor is a kind, caring and loving father for the nation and being a good father he took difficult decisions such as the HIPC initiative that had brought much benefits to Ghanaians. He said, "This year's elections is a chance for Ghanaians to put the NDC down and out".

Mr Kwamena Bartels, Minister of Private Sector Development, told the cheering crowd of a curse on the NDC pronounced by its founder, Flt Lt J.J. Rawlings in 1992 and 2000 "that if the NDC failed to win power in those years then they were doomed in Ghanaian politics forever".
