Kids of Potter's Village with Stanbic Bank officials
A team of Commercial Banking staff at Stanbic Bank showed their love and care to kids of Porter’s Village, an orphanage at Dodowa in Accra, when they hosted the children to a feast in a half-day’s visit.
Commercial Banking wined and dined with the children, in a bid to share with them good cheer and give them a sense of hope through life, while interacting with them.
Speaking on the purpose of the visit, Manager of Commercial Banking at Stanbic Bank, Richard Asare, said: “This is how we share our soft spot with our society - bringing hope to the disheartened, sharing what we have with those who need it the most, while we assure them of a possible, brighter future. At Stanbic Bank, we pride ourselves in our passion to drive a holistic growth of our country and society, as we find out where and how we can help. This is just what we have come to do,” he stated.
The staff members also donated cloths to the caregivers at the Village, thirty pairs of second-hand kiddie shoes to the kids, drinks, food items and confectionary.
The Potter’s Village homes about 143 children, with 23 in SHS and 8 in Tertiary institutions currently. The rest are in primary school and JHS while the younger ones are taught right there at the orphanage. Other older in-mates have been married away, and some travelled overseas to pursue their interests.
Commenting on how children land with the orphanage, the owner of Potter’s Village, Dr. Mrs. Jane Adu said the children are brought into the home at tender ages; picked up as abandoned children by their parents, whereas some are also brought in by the Police and the Social Welfare, where they are bred until they are responsible, independent adults.
The children are fed and seen through school by Madam Dr. Mrs. Adu with her own resources and the benevolent support of kind-hearted people in the society. As a result of public ridicule these orphans are faced with in their various schools by their colleagues, the orphanage has erected classroom structures on its corridors to school the children.
The situation has arisen the need for the orphanage to put up a new place to house the children, since the current place is a rented one. To help make the dream come true, the Commercial Banking staff members promised to go back and raise some capital to help complete a new hostel to donate to the Village.
Staff of Stanbic have over the years been committed to contributing and financially empowering the less privileged - a culture which is in tandem with Stanbic Bank’s culture of supporting and caring for the vulnerable.
In the past, staff of the Bank have spearheaded CSR projects such as the donation of a neonatal phototherapy machine to the Ridge Hospital, setting up of a Trust Fund for two children of a deceased kidney patient, refurbishment of the Children’s Wing of the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital, Mampong Akwapim as well as donation of food items to several orphanages across the country.
