The Aflao Municipal Hospital has received GHC 15,000.00 worth of medications from the Aflao Traditional Area Development Organisation (ATADO), a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) to help meet the health needs of the people.

The package included anti-malarial, diabetes, and hypertension medications.

The Huime Avegato Clinic, also in the Ketu South Municipality, benefitted from the donation.

The donation formed part of a free medical outreach organised by ATADO at Avoeme in collaboration with the Aflao Traditional Council, and the Keta Municipal Health Directorate with the screening of about 500 people from the area for malaria and other health conditions.

Dr Julius Patamia, a medical doctor at the hospital said malaria and diarrhoea had been on the increase due to the unwholesome water consumed in the area.

He said the hospital had specialist departments, and served a wide catchment area including patients from neighbouring Togo, and appealed for support to increase its 100-bed facility.

Dr Patamia said financial constrains discouraged some people from accessing medical care, and called on individuals and organisations to support health promotion in the area.

Madam Dzifa Gomashie, a former Deputy Minister for Tourism and founding member of ATADO, appealed to the people to consider the Ramsar site as a tourist attraction, and maintain proper sanitary practices to ward off diseases.
