Hello Tomorrow Ghana will host the 2018 edition of the Hello Tomorrow Africa Finals in November 2018. The newly launched local hub of non-profit organization; Hello Tomorrow Global, will be at the helm of affairs as tech-based startups all over Africa will converge at the University of Ghana, Legon and battle it out for a slot at the international contest in Paris next year.
The Hello Tomorrow Africa Finals will create the platform for scientists and deeptech entrepreneurs within the continent to pitch their business ideas to a selected jury and prospective investors, out of which the winner will contest at the Hello Tomorrow Global challenge in March 2019.
This was disclosed by the Ambassador of Hello Tomorrow Ghana, Dr. Riverson Oppong during the launch of Hello Tomorrow Ghana and the African Regional Deeptech Summit and Competition on Friday 6th July, 2018 at Ashesi University.
Making reference to recent news reportage on scientific breakthroughs by Ghanaians, Dr. Oppong asserted that Hello Tomorrow Ghana will aid in the development and progress of existing deeptech startups.
“The vision is simple – that we are here to help the existing incubators, the existing ecosystems to facilitate and help build the existing startups and businesses that are around holistically,” he said.
Themed "Unlocking Disruptive and Revolutionary deeptech Innovations - From Africa to the World", the launch featured presentations on how Africa can harness deeptech innovations for socio-economic development.
Speaking at the event, International Hubs Manager at Hello Tomorrow Global, Stephanie Divjak disclosed that over 4,000 applications are submitted from over 110 countries annually. She charged deeptech entrepreneurs present to partake in the contest since it creates the platform to meet with potential investors.
“What makes the Hello Tomorrow Challenge unique? First of all, it’s the connections. The event is hosting over more than 3,000 people. So the idea is that participants can connect with industry leaders, be recognized by accelerators and potential investors,” she stated.
Key speakers at the event included the Deputy Economic Head at the French Embassy in Ghana, Virgile Satje, 2018 winner of the Presidential Pitch, Vanessa Aisha Liman, CEO of Pneuma Food Scientifics, Zeenatu Suglo Adams, as well as CEO of OR Systems, Vincent Agyei-Yeboah.
