NSMQ2018: WASS was underestimated, undermined – Zongo Minister

Inner-City and Zongo Development Minister, Boniface Abubakar Saddique has lauded the West Africa Senior High school (WASS) for securing the second position at the just ended National Maths and science Quiz.

According to the Minister, the school has been undermined over the years and their performance at the 2018 NSMQ has bridged the gap between WASS and the ‘so-called’ first class schools.

“I am filled with joy and satisfaction because this school was underestimated and undermined and in fact when I heard of the contest I was in the hall to support my boys. On my way to Koforidua I told my colleagues in parliament that very soon they will hear the results that Madina is on top but some of them were doubting. They said ah but you WASS? And I answered them by saying yes WASS will pull surprises. Later at the conference, my colleagues did not even mention those who came first but instead, they were mentioning WASS all over the place,” he stated.

He encouraged students who were disappointed because WASS could not emerge winners, to be proud and study harder to win the ultimate prize in the next competition.

“I know some of you were not happy with the results but in every contest we have the one who wins and others who follow, you just have to prepare harder for the next competition. There’s no winner and there’s no loser. Everybody was equally represented,” he said

The grand finale of the NSMQ which saw one time winners, Adisadel College (ADISCO), two times winners, St. Peter’s Senior High School (PERSCO) and first time finalist, West African Senior High School (WASS) came off July 6, 2018 in Accra.

WASS came in stronger to take the lead when St. Peter’s SHS answered two riddles for six points to overcome their two-point deficit to WASS, thereby leading them with 46 points.
