Striking workers of University of Ghana, Legon, on Tuesday mounted a four-hour roadblock on the main Accra Aburi road causing vehicular traffic jam on the usually busy road.
The action was to press home their demand on government to open fresh negotiations on the university's Collective Agreement, which, according to the workers, elapsed in October 1998.
The strike action, which started last Thursday is by the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) and the Local branch of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU).
When the GNA got to the spot the roadblocks had been removed and the workers were loitering around the main gate.
Inspector Tetteh George Zunta, Officer in charge of Legon Police Station, said police reinforcements from various units in the district had brought the situation under control.
"We are still standing by to help control the situation should any (trouble) arise." There were no casualties, according to him.
Mr Peter Lumor, Chairman of TEWU, said the strike would continue until they hear something encouraging from the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare.
"It is going to be a daily affair until our plight is considered by the big men", he said.
