Begoro, Oct. 10, GNA - Traditional rulers have been urged to re-introduce puberty rites in their areas to help control the rate of teenage pregnancy and its related social problems.
The Amamrehene of Begoro, Barfour Opoku Afrane II, who made the call at the Odwira celebration by the chiefs and people at Begoro at the weekend, said the abandonment of "precious" cultural practices such as "Obragoro" and "Dipo" encouraged teenage pregnancy and irresponsible fatherhood in the society.
He observed that disregard for cultural values were the major causes of indiscipline in the society, especially among the youth and asked traditional rulers to resist foreign cultures that have negatively affected the society.
Barfour Afrane advised chiefs not to engage in active politics and said the chieftaincy institution must be preserved for the development of the people.
