Nana Appiah Mensah is CEO of Menzgold
The CEO of Menzgold Ghana Company Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1), has urged the youth of Kasoa to desist from their planned demonstrations against the Bank of Ghana and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after his gold-trading company came under the scrutiny of these two bodies.
The youth in the Awutu Senya East municipality, particularly Kasoa, were planning to take to the streets of Accra on Friday, 10 August 2018, over what they call the “unfair and illegal targeting” of the company set up by an indigene of their town.
Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM 1, enjoys wide support among the people of Kasoa. The youth of the area recently applied for a permit to go on demonstration against the two government agencies.
The planned demonstration comes on the heels of reports that EOCO is planning to initiate investigations into operations of the gold-purchasing firm.
EOCO is said to have invited Mr Appiah Mensah following concerns by the Bank of Ghana over the operations of the company.
The EOCO move came after the Bank of Ghana issued a fresh caution to the public against dealing with Menzgold, which the central bank claims is not licensed to take deposits – a claim that has been rejected a number of times by the firm as baseless.
However, Nana Appiah Mensah, in a tweet, begged the youth to abstain from carrying out their actions, insisting that dealing with the relevant authorities is the right approach.
“My attention has been drawn to a pending demonstration in the Awutu Senya East municipality in solidarity of Menzgold. I humbly urge all to desist. We are employing a diplomatic resolution under the tenet of rule of law in the interest of our beloved republic,” the tweet said.
