The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has cautioned residents at Anum-Apapam and Oboho communities in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region to be mindful of abandoned mines in the area, which it describes as death traps.
This follows an inspection by NADMO officials after numerous complaints by residents, predominantly peasant farmers, whose farms are riddled with the pits.
Speaking to Class News, Ayensuano NADMO Director, Joseph Okai Djan called on the Inter-Ministerial Committee on galamsey to help the organisation to cover the pits as they pose grave danger to residents.
