The leadership of the Joint committee of freight forwarder associations has threatened a sit-down strike against government if it doesn’t rescind its decision regarding the implementation of the Cargo Tracking Note (CTN) policy.
The Customs Division of the GRA commenced implementation of the Cargo Tracking Note System effective Friday 1st June, 2018.
Under this system, Shippers/Forwarders at the various ports of loading are to provide detailed and timely information on all shipments to Ghana in advance on the Global Online Platform made available for the purpose.
But the leadership of the Joint committee of freight forwarder associations say the CTN will only add up to the cost of doing business at the Ports.
The association organised a forum to enlighten members on the effects of the policy as well as solicit their support.
The President of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders, Kwabena Ofosu-Appiah called for a suspension of the policy since it will affect importation of goods into the country.
He also threatened to halt the payment of duties to the customs division of the GRA, if government doesn’t rescind its decision to withdraw the implementation of the policy.
