Our attention has been drawn to a despicable video on social media where Mr. Eugene Antwi, a Member of Parliament is seen making disparaging comments about Ghanaians abroad.

In the said video, Mr. Antwi makes some unfortunate remarks to the effect that, Ghanaians abroad sit behind their computers and make noise after they fill up their bellies. He continues – even after a stern caution from his co-panelist – by stating the following, "I did same. After I finish eating, I sit behind my computer and just write anything." Sadly, he also disrespects Professor Kwaku Asare and literally runs him down in the video.

We are not surprised by Mr. Antwi’s intentional and disrespectful comments as past actions point to his determination to shatter the efforts of Ghanaians abroad. We are by this release asking Mr. Antwi to be mindful of his utterances and his numerous attempts to undermine the contributions of diasporans.

We demand that Mr. Antwi retracts the unfortunate statement and apologizes to all Ghanaians abroad, preferably, using a recognizable media platform. We also urge him to focus on the task ahead and ask him to desist from comments that will divide our country and by extension, the party.

Lastly, we are calling on the leadership of our great party to condemn these reckless comments in no uncertain terms and remind all party appointees of the great task given to us by the people of Ghana. These disparaging and repugnant comments have no place in our body politic.

We remain CITIZENS!
