The Member of Parliament for Asawase Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak has expressed worry over the delay in releasing the report on the Asawase killings by the committee set up to look into the matter.

According to him the failure of the committee to make public their report is eroding public confidence and could have adverse effect on the peace in the area, as the entire community is anxious to know the outcome of the committee’s report.

“There is tension in the community, very high tension among the youth and this kind of extension is dangerous” he said on Accra based Citi Fm.

He revealed that his checks indicate that the committee investigating the death of the seven Zongo youth have extended the one month given them by two extra weeks, a development he describe as worrying.

“Remember that when this incident happened, we called for a committee to be set up and graciously government set up the committee and was given one month. We were so hopeful that after one month we were going to have the committees report”.

“Yesterday whiles I was in Kumasi, I was hearing rumours going round that the committees period has been extended, I was worried but I had to try and find out so I tried getting the Regional minister, his numbers were not going through, later I got to know that he was out of town, so I managed to get a member of the committee who confirmed to me that they have two weeks extension” he explained.

The legislator believes that “they should have had a press conference or a press release to inform the general public because of A, B, C and D we are unable to release our report as scheduled”.

Meanwhile, five out of the seven deceased Zongo youth, said to be victims of police brutality were laid to rest yesterday at the Tafo Cemetery.
