The Black Stars wasted several opportunities in the game, especially in the first half and couldn't also capitalise on the numerical advantage handed them after the break, when defender Joash Onyango saw red card.
"We had a lot of chances and numerical advantage but it’s just unfortunate we couldn’t utilize any," Appiah said.
"I believe Kenya did well but we could have done better with the chances we had. We should have at least converted them to snatch a point.
"I don't think we deserved to lose but I'm very sure that we'll still qualify from the group despite the defeat. We will make sure all the mistakes don't happen again in the subsequent games," he added.
Ghana will host Sierra Leone in the next game in October.
