The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, has appealed to the government through the Ministry of Energy to consider exploring solar energy and hydro power potentials in the three Northern Regions to boost power supply in the area.
According to him, the region has potential for the development of solar energy, adding that the White lake which passes through Yapei could also be dammed for hydro power generation.
The Northern Regional Minister made this appeal when the Energy Minister, Mr. John Peter Amewu and officials from the Ministry paid a courtesy call on him at his office as part of their working visit to Tamale to hold discussions with the management of Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) over interruptions in power supply in the region.
"Concerning the solar energy, in the whole of the country we have the potential so if you could look at it," he said.
Mr. Salifu Saeed praised His Excellency President Akufo-Addo for appointing Mr John Peter Amewu to replace Mr Boakye Agyarko, who was dismissed few weeks ago.
"You're are not just political heads of the sector ministry but also experts in that area. We can only thank His Excellency President Nana Akufo-Addo for identifying and assigning you to that sector because you understand the sector very well," he stated.
