The Vice-President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has applauded the annual Ghana Energy Awards (GEA) as a commendable motivation scheme for the energy sector.

A statement issued in Accra by organisers of the Awards said the Vice-President made the commendation when he inspected the GEA booth at the opening of the 4th Ghana Renewable Energy Fair at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Dr Bawumia said the innovation and excellence of various companies, organisations and institutions in both private and public sectors of the country’s energy industry deserved recognition and encouragement to continue to do more.

The Vice-President in an interaction with Mr Henry Teinor, the Event Organizer, said the award was a good initiative and a perfect platform for the industry, adding that it would enhance healthy competition among stakeholders.

He, therefore, urged all the sector’s institutions, organisations and individuals to take advantage of the platform to market their brands.

This year’s event, held under the theme: “Sustainable Energy for a Ghana Beyond Aid”, was in line with the government’s vision to move the country beyond a heavy dependence on foreign assistance for its economic development.

The Awards Scheme was instituted to recognize the efforts of individuals and organisations in Ghana’s energy sector. It is superintended by a carefully selected awarding panel constituted of experts in the industry, from both private and public sectors.

The maiden event of the awards in 2017 recognized the achievements of twenty individuals and companies in the energy industry and was well attended by over 300 stakeholders.

Nominations for any of the 19 categories for this year’s event are opened to stakeholders and will last until October 26.

The main event is slated for November 30, 2018 at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra.
