The new classroom block according to Adwoa Safo is aimed among other things to ease congestion
Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya and Minister in charge of Public Procurement, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has provided a three-unit classroom block with a computer laboratory to the Atomic Hills ‘1’ Junior High School in her constituency to ease congestion in the school.
The school has 78 students in a class and the provision of the new classroom block fully furnished with dual desks and teachers’ tables and chairs will not only ease congestion but also improve teaching and learning in the school. The school has been producing one of the best results in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Ga East Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
Commissioning the classroom block and the computer laboratory last Thursday, the Dome-Kwabenya MP described the Atomic Hills Basic Schools as a model public school in the constituency which has been producing excellent BECE results and attracting huge enrolment and therefore needed more physical infrastructure to cope with the increasing number of students in the school.
According to her, she used part of her District Assembly Common Fund to provide the classroom and furnish it in addition to a modern toilet facility at the cost of GH¢326,819.
“I know the importance of education to the socio-economic development of the country and improving education in my constituency has been my number one priority,” she said adding that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government would do everything possible to ensure that every school-going child gets access to education at least to the senior high school level.
She said it is in furtherance of this that the NPP government led by Nana Akufo-Addo has introduced the Free Senior High School policy to enable every child have access to secondary education free of charge.
She explained that she was doing similar projects in some basic schools in her constituency like the Taifa Cluster of Schools, Kwabenya M/A Cluster of Schools, Dome Cluster of Schools, Atomic M/A Cluster of Schools, Ashongman M/A Cluster of Schools and Abokobi Presby School.
She tasked the school authorities to take good care of the classroom block and ensure its good maintenance.
The Municipal Director of Education, Mrs Bernice Ofori said the Atomic Hills ‘1’ and ‘2’ JHS scored 100% in the last BECE with 15 students getting admission into Presbyterian Boys School at Legon, 12 gaining admission into Adisadel College in Cape Coast, 11 gaining admission into St Augustine’s College in Cape Coast and 11 gaining admission into Aburi Girls and others also getting admission into St Rose’s SHS at Akwatia.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Janet Tulasi Mensah, appealed to the MP to use her influence to lobby for GETFund to complete all the GETFund projects in the various schools in the municipalities which are at a standstill to help improve educational infrastructure in the municipalities.
