Samuel Koranteng, Corporate Service Executive for MTN Ghana
In 2017, mobile telecom company MTN Ghana paid a total of GHS1,218.4 billion as income tax to the government of Ghana.
GHS1,059 billion of that went to the government of Ghana while GHS159.4 million went to the National Communication Authority (NCA) and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).
The Corporate Service Executive for MTN Ghana, Samuel Koranteng disclosed this at an MTN/Eastern Media Editors Forum in Koforidua on Wednesday, 17 October 2018.
According to Mr Koranteng, MTN is currently providing 500,000 jobs to Ghanaians and looking forward to increasing the figure.
He said MTN Ghana has made a public offer of 4,637,394,533 ordinary shares valued at 3,478,045,900 with an offer price of GHS0.90 per share to qualified applicants.
Mr Koranteng indicated that MTN Ghana will continue to remain relevant by contributing to Ghana's development and improving the livelihoods of Ghanaians through various sectors such as education, health and the economy.
"So far, MTN Ghana has provided 80 projects in the educational sector, 52 projects in the health sector and 10 economic empowerment projects", he stressed.
He also said MTN Ghana is committed to enhancing rural and urban telephony, thus, embarking on the construction of 230 new sites for coverage extension. It is also putting up 300 new sites to improve 2G network coverage and 1,100 new sites to improve 3G coverage by 27 per cent.
