The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong has rendered an unqualified apology to the Drobo Traditional Council after admitting he erred in his earlier report on the facts of the violence that ensued residents of Drobo and Japekrom.

Traditional elders in Drobo, where some youth allegedly shot and killed four youth from Japekrom including a chief, accused the Brong Ahafo Region Police Command of misrepresenting the facts that led to the confrontation.

In a statement by the Drobo Traditional Council, the police through its Public Relations Officer in an interview with the media had “lied” and misrepresented the facts.

Initial report from the police suggested, the four, all indigenes of Japekrom were attacked by the youth who shot at them from the palace of the Drobo chief.

Speaking to Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa Fm Friday, Chief Inspector confirmed he had apologized to the chiefs for misleading the public.

“I have apologized to the chiefs. I earlier thought the gunshot came from the chief`s store building but I was later told it came from a nearby store building. The buildings are very close so I mistook it for the one on the chief’s compound”.

He added: “I wasn’t on the ground, the information was given and I later found out it was inaccurate. It wasn’t deliberate. I don’t have any stake in whatever is happening there so how will I lie. So they must see that I mean no harm. It was an oversight”.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry on the advice of the Brong Ahafo Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument has imposed a 6:00pm to 6:00am on Drobo, Japekrom, Babianiha, Kwasibourkrom, Mpuasu, Basekrom, Kojokesekrom, Katakyiekrom in the Jaman South Municipality following the clashes.
