Government to purchase 135 cars for army - Akufo-Addo

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) will soon be equipped with over 130 vehicles to help with their transportation needs, President Akufo-Addo has announced.

President Akufo-Addo was speaking at the graduation ceremony of some officers at the Ghana Military Academy held at Teshie in Accra. He further announced that plans are underway to provide the Ghana Armed Forces with a headquarters, as well as a training school.

All roads in the barracks will also soon be asphalted, President Akufo-Addo added.

“We have ordered an additional 135 vehicles including; Nissan Hard body pick ups, Toyota land cruiser, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Land Cruiser pick-ups and dispatch motorbikes to improve the transportation facilities of the troops."

“These vehicles will arrive within the country in the next 2 months, and I have directed the Minister for Defense to begin the second phase of the project for the asphalting of roads in the barracks,” he said in his address.

The President further revealed that government also plans to construct a stadium for the Ghana Armed Forces.

According to him, Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, will next month cut sod for construction of the Commander-in-chief sports stadium.

“Next month in November, the Minister for Defense will cut the sod for the construction of the commander in chief sports stadium program for Garrisons in the country, the first to be built in the Tamale,” President Akufo-Addo announced.
