Ocquaye, Ayorkor Botchway receive Prince Charles and wife in Ghana

The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall have arrived in Ghana for a four-day visit aimed at strengthening ties between the UK and Ghana.

The couple who arrived in Ghana on Friday afternoon were received by Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye Jnr, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional and integrations, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway and some members of the diaspora.

The Royal Highnesses would be welcomed at the Jubilee House by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo.

As part of the activities today the Royal Highnesses will attend a State Banquet organized by the Presidency in their honor.

The event will be attended by senior dignitaries, a number of British citizens in Ghana, some Ghanaians as well as prominent figures from the business, arts, culture and the media fraternity.

The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr Iain Walker, will later host a special reception to celebrate the visit to Ghana and to mark Prince Charles’ 70th birthday, ahead of the official celebrations in the UK on November 14.

The Prince of Wales, , and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall are expected to later travel to Kumasi to confer with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

This is the first visit of Prince of Wales’ and The Duchess of Cornwall’s to Ghana since Commonwealth Heads of Government unanimously decided the Prince should succeed Her Majesty The Queen as the future Head of the Commonwealth, during the Commonwealth Summit held in London in April this year.
