Government will from next year 2019, construct 3 footbridges at the Akweteman, Lapaz and Awoshie junctions, on the George Walker Bush N1 highway.
The move is to curb the frequent knockdown of pedestrians on the busy road.
Answering questions from Bole/Bamboi MP Yusif Sulemana in Parliament regarding safety of the road, Minister for Roads and Highways Kwasi Amoako Attah disclosed the project when completed will help reduce deaths on the road.
“We’ve done proper post completion engineering assessment on that road and we’ve realized that we need three more footbridges at very critical intersection, La Paz junction, Akweteman junction and Awoshie Junction because we want to improve safety and visibility that is why all these will go with lighting.”
About 60% of road crashes on major national highways in Accra, were recorded on the N1 highway.
This is according to the first AMA Road Safety Report, analyzing data from 2011 to 2015.
