RxAll, a Nigerian Startup which is developing a handheld device for real-time drug analysis, helping solve the crucial issue of fake and degraded drugs has won the first edition of the just concluded Hello Tomorrow Africa Finals deeptech startup competition in Cape Town.
The final round of the Africa regional pitching competition took place on the Arena Stage of the two-day AfricArena 2018 Tech conference at the plush Century City Conference centre in Cape Town, South Africa. The competition opened with an online registration received over 4500 applications globally, 124 of which are from Africa. Nine African Startups made it into the highly competitive global Top500 deeptech startups.
The top 3 African startups, RxAll, Tambua Intelligent Diagnostics and Passerine Aircraft were shortlisted to live pitch head-to-head on the Arena stage on Friday 16th November, 2018 with RxAll emerging eventually as the overall best startup, taking home $5000 equity free prize, a chance to represent Africa on the global stage, return flight tickets to Paris to attend the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit and Investor Day and the opportunity to showcase their innovations during the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit in March 2019.
RxAll is a digital platform that enables anyone to test the quality of their drugs in 20 seconds using a proprietary IoT nanoscanner and mobile app.
Their proprietary machine learning algorithm reads the scan from the IoT nanoscanner, identifies the drug and assesses its level of quality. It records the test result against a blockchain ledger and returns the quality report to the mobile app in 20s.
Tambua Intelligent Diagnostics is a medical technology software and services company that utilizes Spectral Analysis, Artificial Intelligence and machine learning to offer cheap, accessible and reliable Diagnosis solutions for Mycobacterium Tuberculosis and Pneumonia, the biggest causes of death in Africa.
They developed the Tambua application which is a free mobile application for screening Tuberculosis (TB) and Pneumonia. Users can use this app without having to visit a hospital or any prior medical experience. They are on a mission is to turn available technology such as feature phones and smartphones into diagnostic tools.
Passerine Aircraft is developing a unique UAV which uses robotic legs to take-off and land like a bird. The use of bio-mimicry means the drone achieves the flight performance of efficient fixed-wing UAV's while being able to operate without ground infrastructure. It makes use of ducted fans for quiet and safe operation and has the capability to carry a large payload for its size.
Passerine drones are fully electric and provide more than 1 hour of flight at speeds up to 150kph.
