'Vote Kaba & Slit, Not Skirt & Blouse'

THE MEMBER of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Hon. George Isaac Amoo, has called on all supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to vote for both the NPP's Presidential and parliamentary candidates or what he termed "Kaba and slit" instead of voting for President Kufour but voting for parliamentary candidates of other parties, in what is now known in local political parlance as "skirt and blouse."

Speaking at an NPP political forum at the university of Ghana - Legon, last Thursday, the outgoing legislator, known among his fans as " show boy" told the gathering that a vote for any candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), either presidential or parliamentary would be a wasted effort, since there was no way the NDC could win the December polls.

" Anyone who votes for the NDC would only regret the decision because after December 7, any such a person would have realized that he had been committed to a defeatist cause. So why should you not resolve to join the winning team right from now? I hope by now the NDC gurus have realized that they don't have the chance of winning the impending elections and are rather preparing for the polls in 2008," Hon. Amoo told the students.

The outgoing MP who used the occasion to formally announce his support for the NPP parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Madam Akosua Opare Frema, who defeated him (Amoo) in the party's parliamentary primary, stated that after December 7, "Prof. Mills is going to be out of coverage area" and wondered why some people would want to follow such a losing party whose leader was left with few days to be out of coverage area.

According to Amoo, a vote for NPP candidates in the impending elections was synonymous to setting an agenda for the development of the country while a vote for the NDC was a decision to send this nation back to the days of corruption, human rights violations and general insecurity of the state.

He added that President Kufour, unlike Prof. Mills, was his own man who could gather the necessary courage to take the necessary decisions at the right time to get the country moving forward without any kind of interference.

The MP, therefore, called on the electorate to renew the mandate of the president for another four years to enable him "continue with the good work he is doping."

In her address, Madam Frema pledged to provide a visionary type of leadership to the people of the constituency, which is the largest metropolitan constituency in the country, to help solve the numerous problems confronting them.

" As a former lecturer and head of department of this university, a development worker and consultant to a number of local and international organizations, I promise to bring my vast experiences to bear when I become your representative in parliament," the aspiring MP told the gathering.
