Pay outstanding fees in 3 days else forget the exams – GIJ to students

Students of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) who were disallowed from writing their first papers in the first semester exams over nonpayment of school fees have been given a last minute attempt to settle all outstanding debts to be able to take part in the rest of the exams.

All affected students now have up to Wednesday, December 5 to pay up their fees and register for the semester, a meeting between the schools management and the Students Representative Council concluded.

Also, students who are on various scholarships and have not been able to pay their fees are required to obtain an official letter from the respective scholarship secretariats and present same to the school in order to be allowed to write the exams.

The meeting was on the back of a protest by students after those who could not pay their fees in full were prevented from writing exams Sunday. The papers written on the day have since been cancelled.

“Management will open the online registration platform again for students to pay the required amount and to enable them to register,” a communiqué issued by the SRC said Monday said.

It added that the “window is for a period of three days with effect from Monday 3rd December, 2018 to midnight Wednesday 5th December, 2018”.

The examination papers that were disrupted due to Sunday’s protest by students have been rescheduled.

“The papers that were scheduled on Sunday, December 2, 2018 for the undergraduate students will now be written on Sunday, December 16, 2018 and that of graduate students on Sunday, December 23, 2018,” the communiqué added.
