Over 20 suburbs of Accra to go without water for 9 hours tomorrow

Water supply to the western part of Accra will be cut on Wednesday for nine hours to allow engineers conduct a scheduled maintenance on the Weija Treatment Plant.

The Ghana Water Company announced Tuesday that supply to thousands of homes in over 20 suburbs of Accra and Central Region will be interrupted from 8:00am to 5:00pm Wednesday due to the shutdown of the plant.

Areas to be affected are Kasoa, Weija, Gbawe, Malam, New and Old Bortianor, Dansoman, Mamprobi, Korle-Bu, Awudome Estates and Kwashiman.

The rest are Anyaa, Tesano, Abeka, Sowutuom, North Kaneshie, Kaneshie , Odorkor, Dakuman, Santamaria, and surrounding areas.

“Supply will be restored as soon as the work is completed,” the Water Company assured, and expressed regrets for the inconveniences the shutdown is likely to cause to the consuming public.

The Weija plant, with an average production of 120,000 cubic meters of water per day is the major source of water supply in Accra,

According to the Water Company, water demand in Accra West is mostly for domestic purposes with a number of low-scale business units, shops, hotels, restaurants and educational institutions.
