The brother of a young man who died in the process of being baptised has said they would not blame the death on the pastor or anyone.

According to the brother whose name was given as Evans Alexenest, the brother is already dead and the only necessary thing is to bury him, not play blame games.

Speaking in an interview with UTV monitored by YEN.com.gh, Evans narrated that he was in church when he received the distressing call at around 4pm that his brother, Yaw Keyeremeh, had drowned.

He said he immediately called Yaw’s phone but his church members answered the call confirming that indeed, he was dead.

They had gone to the Weija River in the company of others after church for the baptism which later turned tragic.

Evans narrated further that he managed to rush to the scene after he closed from church but got the news that the police had already conveyed the body to the Police Hospital.

The incident, according to him, happened on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at the Weija River in Accra.

However, he did not want to believe it until he watched the video which has been circulating on social media.

Therefore, he, together with other relatives, proceeded to the hospital the next day and found out that the brother was indeed dead.

According to him, he never attended the same church with the brother.

Asked if he was going to take the matter up and have the pastor questioned, Evans said he would not do that because the church is “from God”.

He even refused to mention the name of the church explaining that he did not want to drag it in the mud.

The brother of the deceased added that they would hold no one accountable for what had happened, but would bury the dead and leave matters in God’s hands. It is believed that Evans himself is a pastor from the way he spoke.

His brother sadly drowned in the river when he was immersed for the second time during baptism.

In a video circulating online, the pastor was heard calling out for help, but it seems it was too late to save the young man from the hands of death.
