Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, Ashanti Regional Chairman of NPP
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has addressed concerns raised by the National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress surrounding the performance of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia led government.
During the maiden edition of a press series christened “Moment of Truth”, Sammy Gyamfi, on behalf of the NDC, raised several issues including accusing President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia of “busily enjoying the largess of power” and losing touch with “the reality of dire economic straits that their mis-governance and maladministration has brought to this country.”
But the Ashanti Regional Boss of the NPP has reacted to the statement claiming that it was a regret, in the history of Ghana, to have a President in the person of former President Mahama.
According to him it was a waste of time and space for Ghana to have been put in the hands of former President Mahama.
In Mr. Antwi-Boasiako view, Mr Mahama became president as a result of the untimely passing of the late Prof. Mills. For this reason, he asserted that Mr. Mahama became leader by accident and had absolutely no plans as president.
“His (Mahama’s) plight worsened as he enjoyed more than one term in office. He did not have a plan or vision for Ghana at the time that he became President”, the NPP chairman noted.
He continued that “Mahama was a waste of time and space for as President. What meaningful legacy did he leave behind?
He was rotten to the core and had no considerable vision yet his people find it appropriate to attack President Akufo-Addo and his able vice Dr. Bawumia”, Chairman Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi stated.
The NDC, in their quest to register their displeasure at the Akufo-Addo government, sarcastically asked if :
“They have delivered on their promise to pay all contractors within the first 100 days of their administration, such that today, GETFUND contractors are threatening demonstrations and closures of the schools they built.
- Indeed, they have for the past two years delivered $1million to each of the 275 Constituencies in Ghana, such that today, all 275 Constituencies have received $2 million each, for the construction of KVIP toilets.
- Yes, they have delivered on their promise to provide a congenial atmosphere for the growth of the financial sector, by supervising the contraction of the sector from a positive growth of 22.3% (as at last quarter of 2016) to a negative growth of 13.1%.”
Aptly replying to the above questions, Chairman Wontumi requested to know if the leadership of the NDC have so soon forgotten about the bus branding scandal which compelled the Minister of Transport, Dzifa Attivor, to resign during former President Mahama’s era.
It would be recalled that during the tenure of former President Mahama, investigations into the branding of 116 Metro Mass Transit Buses involving GH¢3.6million revealed that the company contracted, Smarttys, over-billed the government to the tune of about GH¢1.9million.
Chairman Wontumi explained that if the NDC had soon forgotten, then he would wish to remind them that the nursing trainee allowance which was scrapped by the previous NDC government has been restored by President Akufo-Addo and his vice.
He added that under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo, the National Digital Property Addressing System has been launched, taking the country closer to realizing our vision of formalising the Ghanaian economy.
He ended by reminding the NDC of the good work vice President Dr. Bawumia has implemented at our various ports to improve trade in the country.
The directives, Chairman Wontumi reiterated included the removal of all customs barriers on the country’s transit corridor, a joint inspection by all regulatory agencies at the ports and a hundred percent paperless transactions at the ports.
