Ghanaians To Enjoy Free Education?

GHP collected some promises made by the various political parties. We present below, VERIFIABLE promises and hope the winners keep to their word

NPP

  • Pres. Kufuor Assures Nation of Free Education (said this at a durbar of the chiefs and people at Juaben in the Ejisu/Juaben district (read)& Inauguration of Building Project For UDS

  • Govt secures fund for Sumbrungu Airport project

  • 40-kilometre Maakro Junction-Samproso portion of the main Kumasi-Techiman road at Bremang, a suburb of Kumasi to be finished in 18 months (read)

  • Tarkwa-Maakro-Techiman road to be rehabilitated

  • Government pledges 500 million cedis for Tetrem SSS

  • Government to pay compensation for Peduase land

  • President Kufuor pledged to get Mr. Yaw Osafo Maafo, the Minister of Finance to release ?500 million for the construction of the Swedru Secondary School girls? dormitory.

  • A bus each would be allocated to the Akim Swedru and the Akim Achease Senior Secondary Schools

  • Plans are well advanced to get modern medical equipment to keep the Asonomaso hospital on track. A new theatre is being constructed at the Asonomaso hospital at a cost of 356.9 million cedis - Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, the Ashanti Regional Minister

  • Mpaha (N/R) main road had been awarded on contract for rehabilitation and work would start soon; provide Mpaha with a small town water system

  • Mr Simon Osei-Mensah, NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Bosomtwe Constituency: development of Lake Bosomtwe into a first class tourists site; he would negotiate with the Government and the Private Sector to construct a cable transport system from Kokoado to Abono to facilitate aerial transportation to the lake

  • President John Agyekum Kufuor has reiterated that if voted into power, he would fight corruption with clenched teeth by empowering accountability agencies like the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to sharpen their teeth against corruption

Promises that can be Ignored

NDC

  • Basic School: free tuition, free textbooks and exercise books, free infrastructure, free school uniforms for children from underprivileged homes and deprived communities, and a non-requirement of payment of fees for such activities as sports and culture
  • Second Cycle Education: free tuition for all students and introduce a free textbook scheme as well over time.
  • Find the perpetrators of the Yendi violence, which led to the killing of the Dagbon overlord, Ya Na Yakubu Andani II

Independents

  • Mr Carl Ebo Morgan, an Independent Parliamentary Candidate for Upper Denkyira East Constituency: Best pupils would be given scholarship up to the Junior Secondary School
  • Mr. John Nyamekye Ansah-Mensah, an independent candidate for Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency: Lobby for the construction of Secondary Technical School at Nsuaem to cater for a large area in the constituency covering Simpa, Dompim, Kyekyewere and Adiewoso

PNC (Grand coalition with GCPP, EGLE )

  • Provide 20 tractors for every district to assist farmers in the preparation of their land should it . (Rally at Salaga in the East Gonja District)
  • 400% increase in workers' salaries.
  • Free medical care for pregnant mothers
  • Take Ghana out of HIPC

Convention People's Party (CPP)

  • Free and compulsory education from kindergarten to Senior Secondary School.
  • Increase the daily minimum wage from the current ?11,200 to ?50,000
  • Mr Anthony Mensah, CPP Parliamentary Candidate for Okaikoi South, has pledged to add his salary to the Member of Parliament's (MP's) share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund (DACF) to develop the Contituency if he won the seat. He will live in his house in the Constituency.
