Help Police to make elections violence-free - DSP

Agona Duakwa (C/R), Dec. 6, GNA - The Agona Nyakrom District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) H. H, Afful has called on party supporters in the Agona East and Agona West Constituencies to assist the security services to make Tuesday's Presidential and Parliamentary elections violence-free.

He said party leaders and supporters had a major role to play to ensure that the elections were peaceful, free and fair, adding that, the whole world was watching Ghana to see if it could sustain democracy. DSP Afful, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Agona Duakwa after monitoring rallies at Nsaba and Duakwa, noted that the Police gave guidelines to the political parties to avoid violence. The District Commander said the Police had put in place measures to promote peace and unity in the District before, during and after the electioneering campaign.

DSP Afful said the nation needed peace and stability to ensure the growth of the economy and to avert civil strife, adding, "this is not the first time the country is going to conduct an election and party leaders must advise their supporters to comport themselves during and after the elections since Police would not hesitate to deal with them".
