Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, Presidential hopeful of NDC
Presidential hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has asked the Nana Addo-led government to take full responsibility for the Menzgold scam.
Government’s complicit posture and actions in protecting the affected customers has been the worst as they hobnobbed with officials of the embattled company.
“……government should sit and solve the problem after they had hobnobbed with them……”
Over 60,000 depositors’ funds reported to be a colossal amount of US$ 260 million have been lost and the longest-serving Parliamentarian noted that government cannot distance itself from the officials and dealings of Menzgold.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Host of Simpieso, Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Mr. Bagbin explained that DKM and Menzgold are almost the same but government has not learnt from past lessons and handled it in a worst manner.
According to him, even though DKM had no license to operate as a bank, there was no overt engagement and endorsement by then NDC government as seen by the Nana Addo-led administration.
“….but you did not see the former President Mahama and his Ministers were no hobnobbing with DKM, here is the case there is one now which was not given any such license but which was on daily basis hobnobbing with government, funding GFA League, flying in jets with officials”
And that any time Bank of Ghana issued warning and drew the attention of citizens of the business not genuine and don’t deal with this company. The next day you see the CEO of that company with the President.
“In fact, there were contributions here and there, people seeing monies being thrown, there was pomp and pageantry with government officials and President himself playing a role. That was giving credibility to what the gentleman (NAM 1) was doing and that was convincing Ghanaians that the man was doing genuine business hence put in their money, he added.”
Speaking further, he opined that government should pay the capital invested by the customers and take actions against initiators and all persons behind the shady business.
