The Public Relations Officer (PRO), of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Gilbert Nii Ankrah, has justified reasons why they stopped the construction of a fence wall at the premises of the building for the Special Prosecutor.
The AMA he explained has the responsibility of ensuring that, the regulations guarding the construction of buildings and renovations are applied.
The bigger office allocated for the use by the Special Prosecutor, has been marked with ‘Stop Work and produce permit’ inscription by the AMA.
In an interview with Kwabena Agyapong on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the AMA PRO said the Special Prosecutor must provide the AMA with permits before they would be allowed to continue with the renovation works and construction of the fence wall.
He said, the AMA is only doing its job and as an institution, they do not know if the building is for any state institution but only concerned about the need for the right thing to be done.
He said, the office should just provide us with the necessary documentation before they can continue with the work.
"We were just carrying out our duty. We don’t care if it is the Special Prosecutor’s building; we are interested in ensuring that the right thing is done. We were just carrying out our duties,’’ he insisted.
When asked the way forward, he said, the AMA is waiting for the necessary documentation or if they don’t have it, they have to go through the due process before they are allowed to continue with the work.’’
