Ghana will continue to partner Ethiopian Airlines despite Sunday's fatal plane crash which took the lives of 157 people including airline crew.
On Sunday, March 10, 2019, an Ethiopian Airlines jet faltered and crashed Sunday shortly after takeoff, carving a gash in the earth and spreading global grief to 35 countries that had someone among the 157 people who were killed. There is no immediate cause of what might have caused the tragedy.
But the Aviation Minister, Kofi Adda, reiterated that Ethiopian Airlines has one of the best managerial airlines with many years’ experience hence there was no need to back out despite the unfortunate incident over the weekend.
He added that although the incident could happen anywhere in the world, what happened in the country known for its safest airlines in the world, was unforeseen.
“What I can say at this point is that on record Ethiopia has been one of the safest airlines with the highest record in the industry - well-trained professionals who have flown their aircrafts and provided services. They've been doing a good job over the years what happened was unexpected.” The Minister indicated.
The Minister, while disclosing that a board will be set to control the affairs of the impending home-base carrier, he made mention that a team was sent to Ethiopia to discuss on the shareholder's agreement in terms of cooperate governance arrangement, the structure of ownership and the management structure.
According to him, “My team came back successful and most of the things we considered to be important to us have been taken on board by Ethiopian airlines. We are happy that the position we’ve taken will be further improved come April this year for us to conclude the shareholder’s agreement and then we will be on our way to getting the Airline established formally.”
Kofi Adda, however, announced that aside the call on sourcing aircraft from foreign investors, Ghanaians living in the country as well as the diaspora are invited to invest to make up the fleet for the national home-based carrier.
