The Ghana Water Company (GWCL) has apologised to residents in and around Achimota, Awoshie, Pokuase for the acute water shortage that hit parts of Western Accra.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) for GWCL, Mr Stanley Martey, speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm said, the power outages that hit the country few weeks ago affected its production resulting in the acute water shortage.

He explained to Nyankonton Mu Nsem for every outage, it takes more 6 hours for the GWCL to resume production and supply of water.

The company he noted took advantage of the situation to embark on a routine maintenance of their facilities.

The maintenance he assured have been completed and by mid-day today (Saturday), all the affected areas will have water.

Residents of Achimota, Pokuase, Awoshie and other areas in the Western part of Accra, have been battling against an acute water shortage for nearly a week.

The shortage has badly affected homes and several educational institutions and businesses. While some areas have no water running through their taps, others have seen intermittent flows.

Residents in the most affected areas have been roaming in search of water.

Some took advantage of the heavy downpour on Friday, to harvest rainwater for their usage.

But Mr Martey has assured the affected residents they will have water flow through their taps today.
