Our Lady of Mercy Senior High School (OLAMS) celebrate anniversary
Our Lady of Mercy Senior High School (OLAMS) in Tema, has celebrated its 20th anniversary and eighth edition speech and prize giving day.
The event was on the theme, "20 years of holistic Catholic Education, overcoming challenges ,building resilience and sustaining excellence".
Delivering the keynote address, Very Reverend Father, Francis Adoboli , Vicar General of the Catholic Church , Accra Diocese, noted that the Catholic Mission had helped the country in various ways especially in the building of schools, health facilities, and businesses, among other social amenities since the missionaries arrived in the country some centuries ago.
Father Adoboli said, discipline was key in every human institution saying that the Catholic missions had ensured that discipline was instilled in all its institutions across the country..
The Vicar General appealed to all stake holders to help build OLAMS SHS to produce responsible leaders for the country.
Mr Daniel Titus-Glover, Member of Parliament for Tema East , stated that, OLAMS had produced some relevant citizens for the Tema Metropolis and the country as a whole.
Mr Titus-Glover further challenged students to aspire to greater possibilities as they enjoyed the free SHS policy.
He further stated that government had secured funds to give all second cycle schools a face lift, giving the assurance that OLAMS would receive its share.
He called on parents to encourage their children to take their studies very serious to enable them grow into responsible children.
Mrs Janet Bour-Donkor, Head Mistress of OLAMS, appealed to the TDC Development Corporation and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly to release parcel of land to the school for the construction of hostel facilities to house students who reside far from the school.
Mrs Bour-Donkor further noted that OLAMS was no more under the Ghana Education Services category C schools but had attained category B status.
The head mistress added that, even though the free SHS policy had brought some relief to parents, they must support government in their own special ways.
Seventy-eight deserving students and staff were presented with awards for their meritorious contributions towards the success of the school.
The OLAMS Senior High School had 77 teaching staff and 18 non teaching staff with a student population of 1,181.
