The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has made an appeal to donors to support it raise at least $14billion by 10th October 2019 to meet the target for the 6th replenishment of the fund.

This call was made by Head of Civil Society and Political Advocacy at Global Fund, Linda Mafu at a meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health Monday evening.

According to her, the money will go a long way in saving a target of 60million lives worldwide.

“Help us to get the government to call on the donors to increase their allocation in terms of their contribution to the Global Fund in order for us to save lives and support the progress we have made,” she appealed to the committee.

“We need you to help us remind the donors that we are a global family, we need global collaboration, we need global solidarity to make sure that we save people’s lives.”

The fund also hopes to receive domestic investment of US$46 billion toward ending the three diseases and strengthening health systems through co-financing requirements, and technical assistance on health financing.

These aspirations in resource mobilization call for a concerted efforts and effective strategy, team work and commitment by all actors to increase domestic resources for a sustainable and predictable health sector financing in Africa.

“The implementing countries have to increase their domestic allocation to health to ensure that we continue to save lives, to ensure that we continue to find the missing cases and support the marginalized communities,” Linda Mafu stated.

Stakeholders, especially African CSOs have identified key moments in 2019 which provide great opportunities and entry points for advocacy for domestic resource mobilization efforts for Global Fund investments in Health

The main objective is to facilitate and mobilize Civil Society and stakeholder advocacy effort on domestic resource mobilization and solicit the commitment of governments, private sector and development partners for fully funded 6th Replenishment of the Global Fund and UHC.
