Professor Peter Twumasi, Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has said plans are in place to deny hooligans access to any sports center owned and managed by government.

He said hooligans caught by the security agencies during matches, would be banned from accessing any sporting facility owned by the government, adding that it was the surest way to curb the menace.

Prof, Twumasi said, the NSA was a body mandated to develop, maintain and monitor sporting facilities and infrastructure in the country and would do everything possible to protect the people who use its facilities as well.

Speaking at the 18th commemoration ceremony of the May 9, Disaster, that led to the death of about 127 football fans at the Accra Sports Stadium, he said they would liaise with the right bodies to work towards that policy.

“We wish to use this platform to condemn these unfortunate incidents and further send a strong message to all hooligans, that the NSA would deny those found guilty of such acts access to our facility.

“We also expect that these culprits are made to face the full rigours of the law to serve as a deterrent to others, We would also strengthen our working relations with the law enforcement agencies to ensure that life and properties are protected during football matches,” he said.
