A two-day workshop would be held by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) from May 14 to 15, to discuss and share knowledge on climate change and improvement of quality air in Accra.

Six organisations are co-hosting the workshop, which are the AMA, Ghana Health Service, Environmental Protection Agency, UN-Habitat, World Health Organisation, and ‘ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability.’

A statement issued by Mr Desmond Appiah, C40 Networks and Sustainability City Advisor to the AMA, said the workshop was being organized with support from the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC).

The C40 networks help cities to replicate, improve and accelerate climate action.

The CCAC would feature, in its presentation, the Urban Health Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCP) Reduction Project it was undertaking at the urban level, with Accra as a pilot city.

The Project, among other things, undertakes communication and awareness raising programs, targeting policymakers, the health sector, the media, and the public.

The statement said participants were expected to be drawn from the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies across the country, and other representatives from ministries, departments and agencies, whose work had a bearing on mitigation and adaption actions to curb short-lived climate pollutants.

There would also be representatives from Lagos, Nigeria, Dakar, and Senegal.
