Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, former Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) has observed that with time the lies being peddled about the Electoral Commission (EC) by various political parties will be exposed.
According to him, the EC is always at the centre of accusations of rigging elections in favour of one political party or the other by these politicians as an excuse for their inability to win the polls aw promised their financiers.
At a workshop organised by the West African Election Observers Network in Accra he observed that when politicians lose badly, they must necessarily find excuses to hide behind their defeat expressing hope that with time the falsehood about the commission will be exposed.
“Only time can solve this problem…time and voter education. So with time and as the Ghanaians electorate become more and more sophisticated, the lies that politicians tell will not hold”, he disclosed.
Dr Afari-Gyan also observed a trend where some politicians who do not even stand a chance of winning the elections get people to believe their lies and follow them.
He averred that, “I can’t understand what some people who clearly have no chance of winning an election deceive themselves they’ll win and get people to believe that they will win. If he loses, and sometimes very badly, they find excuses”.
