Desist from fraudulent acts that undermine the integrity of Ghanaian passport - Minister

Foreign Affairs Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has cautioned Ghanaians to desist from every fraudulent activity that will undermine the integrity of the Ghanaian passport.

Among the fraudulent activities she mentioned is the use of forged document for application, adding that, persons found engaging in such an activity will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

She made this notice at the official opening of the Koforidua passport office on Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

During the launch, she stated that the action taken is in line with President Akufo-Addo’s promise of extending passport services to Ghanaians in all parts of the country.

The commissioning of the office will save residents the stress of travelling to either Accra or the Volta region to option a passport, she said.

She stated that her ministry is also taking steps to secure office spaces from the Regional Coordination Council in the Upper East, Upper West, Central Regions as well as the newly created regions for the establishment of passport application centers in their respective capitals.

Speaking in the same vein, Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour asked residents to follow the normal procedure and refrain from using middlemen to acquire a passport.



As the whole passport office centers in Ghana are said to go digital, this is not different from that of the newly built office in Koforidua, with the Regional Minister noting that, the Koforidua Passport office is strictly an online processing centre.

Meanwhile, the purchase of ordinary passport remains Ghc50 and that of express still Ghc100.

Applicants of ordinary passport are to receive their document within 21 days whilst those who applied for express get theirs in 9 days.
