The Kumasi chapter of the Ghana Association of Writers (GAW) is appealing to political and traditional authorities in Kumasi to help revive the Kumasi Children’s park.
The Association is sad that space which is supposed to be a safe haven for kids has rather become a security concern for the entire area.
Speaking to Accra based Kingdom FM after presenting some books to selected prisons in Ashanti, Regional Chairman of GAW Mr Bernard Elikem Buachi said the Association is willing to partner with any entity to push the frontiers of learning in the region.
Mr Buachi said news of the several violent crimes that occur at the defunct Kumasi Children’s park gives no comfort and should be dealt with as a matter of urgency.
“It is sad that a place that is supposed to be a safe recreational space and Center of learning for children in the metropolis has been left to rot and become the permanent abode of violent criminals and drug addicts.
It is a clear indication of how we, the residents and authorities in the region prioritize the development of children ” he said.
APPEAL: The Chairman also called on the political and traditional leaders to take firm actions to rid the place of criminals and redevelop the park to serve the children of the region.
He assured that GAW will continue to live up to her responsibilities to both the young and old.
CHARGE: He called on all writers, would-be writers and all manner of content creators to join the Association in order to better their craft and benefit from their works.
He rehashed GAW’s commitment to the advancement of learning and appealed for partnerships in that regard.
Over 100 novels, exercise books, pens, pencils and other learning materials were donated to children of the Remar Children’s Home at Pataase in Kumasi.
The children were helped through reading exercises and also treated to some good meals.
“We are ready to volunteer our services to Chiefs, community leaders and organizations that would want to partner us for such reading clinics, literary workshops and other activities that promote learning” Mr. Buachi stated.
