Former Power Minister, Dr Kwabena Donkor has stated that, Ghana needs positive opposition to the decisions of authorities which do not make the country thrive.

According to him, one thing the country lacks, aside nationalism, discipline, probity and accountability it has earned after the June 4th revolution, is standing up against bad policies of leaders.

Speaking at the 3rd Revolutionary Lecture Series at the University of Ghana Business School on the theme “Developing a National Character for Sustainable Good Governance”, the former minister noted that for the country to stabilize, authorities need to desist from the habit of exporting raw materials to the world and importing finished goods into the country.

He added that, Ghana must stop the ‘colonial habit’ of exporting raw materials to the world and importing finished goods to help change this behavioural pattern.

Making inferences to buttress his point, Dr Donkor said Ghana has not made any defined pattern since 1921 to 2018 after exporting the country's gold, timber, oil and cocoa.

“In 1921, three commodities constituted 80% of our export earnings namely; Cocoa, timber, gold. In 2018, three commodities constituted to our exports, cocoa, timber and oil… so from 1921 to 2018, have we defined any said pattern?” he quizzed.
